Sol celebrates independents in an Evening of Inspiration

The Evening Standard hosted a summer party with Sol, themed around people who have pursued their passions to launch exciting new career ventures.
2 June 2016

The event, which took place at the Doodle Bar in Battersea, was part of Sol’s #independentsday campaign which builds on the ‘Espiritu Libre’ (Free Spirit) values and sees the brand partner with ‘Local Heroes’ throughout the UK who have broken from convention and started their own independent businesses.

Speakers included Patrick Winterbottom, who gave up his job at consultancy and technology firm CapGemini to set up his project offering tailored treasure hunts. Jim Fleeting, who left a career in IT to make custom guitars, revealed how he now makes instruments for leading musicians from across the globe. Matt Lazenbury and Hendrik Kersten from Expedition Polaris explained how they walked 2,000km across Canada in mid-winter to live in First Nation communities. DoJo app founder Robbie Shimmin offered tips for launching a new app into a highly competitive market place. And speaker Faith Hill provided an insight into why she founded Spark Escapes to help people make their business dreams come true.

A pop up beach with street food by Rica Rica and Butchies made for a good mingling spot following the insightful talks.
