British market puts brakes on SThree profits

The UK jobs market is holding back SThree, the white-collar recruiter.

Its consultants outside of Britain and Ireland saw a 24% increase in gross profit to £31 million in the first three months of 2012 compared to the previous quarter.

But on SThree’s home turf, the company’s net profit fell by 7% to £16.7 million.

Russell Clements, chief executive, said: “There remain significant differences within both geographies and sectors in the demand for the group’s services, but market conditions remain in far better shape than we saw in the aftermath of the global financial crisis.”
