London’s second-biggest airport said current chairman Sir David Rowlands will stand down at the end of his three-year term on March 31.

McNulty, who has previously chaired air traffic control unit NATS, will take over the next day.

McNulty is also on the board of Monarch Holdings, owner of airline Monarch, which is a Gatwick customer, and veterinary drugs firm Norbrook Laboratories.

Gatwick chief executive Stewart Wingate said: “Sir David has chaired the airport through its £1.2 billion transformation programme and laid the foundations for the next phase of its growth as we put forward the case for increased capacity and better surface access. I would like to thank him for his strong legacy.”
