H&M has rolled up its sleeves to further expand its global fashion empire after continuing its impressive run of growth with sales rising for the 22nd month in a row.

The Swedish retailer, the world’s second-largest fashion chain, said sales jumped 14% in January from a year earlier, spurred by the extra 357 stores it has opened, with 3541 worldwide.

H&M, led by chief executive Karl-Johan Persson, revealed last month that it plans to open another 400 stores across the world, including into new markets such as Taiwan, Peru and India.

Full-year results for 2014, which were released in January, saw H&M’s sales rise 18% to £11.7 billion with gross profit up 17% at £6.9 billion.

H&M found itself in trouble last month after it was revealed it paid 540 staff less than the minimum wage.

The retailer insisted all employees were paid the difference and blamed a computer error.

The UK is the company’s third-largest market, behind Germany and the US.
