Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has put up a For Sale sign over his American TV production business amid a frenzy of consolidation.

Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company, best-known for its Oscar-winning films and such series as Project Runway, starring Heidi Klum, said there was no pressure to sell.

He could also spin off the TV arm by winning new investors to fund expansion such as new channels. “It’s not about needing anything,” said Weinstein. “If anything, we’re in the best financial shape of our lives.”

Weinstein set up its TV arm just seven months ago. As well as making shows, it has acquired rights, including The Graham Norton Show from Britain.

TV firms have been rushing to merge as audiences lap up series such as Game of Thrones and House of Cards which can be sold around the world.

ITV has bought America’s Leftfield and Liberty Global and Discovery snapped up All3Media.
