National Express says it is ‘resilient’ in Spain

On a different track: it has been suggested that the transport operator undergoes a significant shake-up in order to help increase its competitiveness
19 June 2012

Transport giant National Express today flew major investors to Madrid in a bid to reassure them about its £700 million-a-year Spanish business.

The company’s Alsa division runs some 2500 vehicles in Spain and carried more than 207 million passengers last year — and NatEx claims its performance is “resilient” despite the country’s shaky economy. “Alsa provides essential public transport services in Spain and its performance has continued to be resilient in the second quarter of 2012,” the company said. “Spanish consumers face a challenging environment. Against this backdrop, Alsa’s intercity coach revenue has continued to grow and urban bus revenue has been strong.”

The shares rose 0.3p or 0.2% to 194.3p.
