O2 thinks big on work experience

23 October 2012

Network problems suffered by O2 earlier this month suggest the mobile giant may have trouble doing its own job, but the company still thinks it is qualified to help young people into the world of work.

The mobile provider has partnered with Bauer Media, owner of FHM, Grazia and Kiss Radio, to create GoThinkBig, a project aiming to create up to 30,000 work experience placements for people aged 14-25 over the next three years.

The companies have jointly pledged £5 million to the project, an online platform that will offer advice and funding, as well as listings of work experience opportunities, internships and apprenticeships.

Paul Keenan, chief executive of Bauer Media, says he hopes GoThinkBig will “inspire a ‘reboot generation’.” O2 and Bauer will create an initial 9000 placements over the next year, including internships and apprenticeships, while other companies are being encouraged to sign up.
