Role model: N Brown swims ahead

2 July 2013

Novak Djokovic’s girlfriend Jelena Ristic modelling a swimming costume and Freddie Flintoff posing in a hoodie helped sales at N Brown, the mostly online and catalogue retailer, surge 8% over the last 17 weeks.

The group behind brands Figleaves — the lingerie business now fronted by Ristic, pictured — Simply Be, High & Mighty for tall people and Jacamo, where Flintoff has his own range, has seen sales accelerate since March, when revenues were up 6% on the previous 12 months.

Chairman Andrew Higginson told investors at N Brown’s annual meeting that online sales now account for 56% of the group’s home shopping revenues.

The Marisota and Jacamo websites have now launched in the US, joining Simply Be and Figleaves. “We continue to see exciting opportunities in this market,” Higginson said.

Angela Spindler joined the business as new chief executive yesterday, taking over from Alan White who retires at the end of October. She is set to pick up a “golden hello” worth as much as £1.63 million via two share awards. Shares rose more than 3% or 16.1p to 482.1p.
