Science in Sport to expand overseas as sales rise

Evening Standard

British sports nutrition firm Science in Sport flexed its muscles to the world today by revealing a surge in sales and plans to expand into Europe.

The sports specialist, which counts cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, pictured, and sprinter Usain Bolt as customers, was buoyed by strong e-commerce sales and increased demand from retailers stocking its goods, from gel packs to energy drinks.

Science in Sport forecasts a 24% rise in revenue to £6.84 million in the year to March 31, up on market expectations.Flush with £2.3 million raised from a float on Aim last August, the business also plans to expand internationally.

It began distributing in the Asia Pacific region from a wholly-owned company in New Zealand in November and next month begins supplying eight European countries through Japanese sports gear distributor Shimano.

Directors said full-year results will be impacted by costs from its listing.
