The City gets another tower as 40-storey Bishopgate skyscraper gets green light
Hordes of suits in London’s Square Mile will have another office skyscraper to call home, after a Japanese developer got the go-ahead this morning for a 40-storey tower.
The City of London gave planning permission for Mitsubishi Estate London to create a 769,727 square feet tower at 6-8 Bishopsgate and 150 Leadenhall Street.
With the help of one of the architects helping on Battersea Power Station- Wilkinson Eyre- the property will have shops on the ground floor and a viewing gallery on the top.
Chief executive of Mitsubishi Estate London, Naoki Umeda, said: “This project is a major investment signalling Mitsubishi Estate’s confidence in the City of London as a world financial centre.
“We are delighted that we will now be able to deliver a striking landmark building for London that will further enhance its global appeal.”
Stanhope will be the development manager on the scheme. Gerald Eve advised on planning.
There are at least 236 tall buildings over 20 storeys currently proposed, approved or under construction in London according to GL Hearn and NLA.
