Centaur Media, publisher of titles ranging from The Lawyer to Marketing Week, has attracted City heavyweight Ron Sandler as its new chairman.

The appointment is a coup for Andria Vidler, pictured, the former Magic FM and EMI Music executive brought in to turn the publisher around 18 months ago.

Sandler was chief executive of the insurance market Lloyd’s of London from 1995 to 1999, overseeing its reconstruction following the reinsurance spiral, and then went on to chair the nationalised Northern Rock.

Outgoing chairman Patrick Taylor said: “I am delighted to be stepping down at a time when the future for the company looks so bright.

"Ron Sandler has enormous experience and I am certain that this will be of significant benefit to Centaur Media in the years ahead.”

Centaur today reported revenues of £72.8 million for 2014, down from £74.4 million, and a modest improvement in profits from £10 million to £10.2 million.

Vidler said: “I am pleased to report that the business is now restructured, focused and returning to growth.

"Less than 18 months ago, Centaur Media was the aggregate of more than 50 small businesses working independently from one another. The business has responded exceptionally well to a significant level of change.

“We have delivered improved results, and momentum in both revenue and margin is building.”
