City's Cheesegrater tower gets the go-ahead

11 April 2012

The Square Mile's 47-storey Cheesegrater tower will begin its ascent early next year after British Land today sealed its partnership with a Canadian pension fund to develop the £340 million scheme.

The 224-metre building in the heart of the insurance district has already drawn interest from a range of potential City tenants.

Insurer Markel and insurance broker Aon are understood to be among those considering taking space when the scheme is completed in 2014, joining the Walkie-Talkie and the Shard of Glass on the London skyline.

British Land's joint-venture partner Oxford Properties is the real-estate arm of the Ontario pension fund that snapped up Lottery operator Camelot and High Speed One, the rail link between St Pancras and the Channel Tunnel, this year.
