Tory in-fighting might be testing the patience of Brits, but it has not deterred a property investor from paying more than £50 million for the Conservative Party’s campaign headquarters, the Evening Standard can reveal.

London property sources said family-owned investment group Charles Street Buildings, born out of the civil engineering business Murphy Bros, has bought 4 Matthew Parker Street in Westminster for £51.5 million from Aviva Investors.

The new Leicester-based owner, led by Murphy Bros’ co-founder Paddy Murphy’s son Hugh, is understood to have been attracted to the building because it will provide long-term rental income, with rent rise potential.

The 39,290-square-foot building is not only let to the Government: it is also home to firms such as Go-Ahead Group.

Property agent Chapman Petrie advised the buyer and Knight Frank acted for the seller, Aviva Investors.

The purchase comes despite some fears that Brexit could make London commercial property look less attractive, with concerns about whether demand for office space from businesses will remain high.
