London-founded shoe retailer Dune has gained a strong footing for its international ambitions after recording a near-25% rise in pre-tax profits.

The footwear chain, which counts The Saturdays’ stars Frankie Bridge and Rochelle Humes as fans, wants to expand its global empire of 300 stores and concessions.

The privately owned retailer said it will increase its presence in the US, refit a number of its 50 UK stores, and next year open in Zurich, Geneva, Berne and St Gallen after making its debut in Switzerland this month.

Accounts filed this week show Dune’s pre-tax profit was £6.6 million in the year to 31 January, up from £5.3 million in the 53 weeks to 1 February 2014.

Sales rose 7% to £149 million.

Investing in technology resulted in a jump in online purchases, while its menswear and accessories ranges performed well.

Directors said: “The company continues to invest in customer insight, product design and its brand infrastructure to ensure it remains a desirable fashion retail destination.”

Dune started as a concession in a Jane Norman store in Oxford Street in 1992.

It was founded by Daniel Rubin, who is executive chairman.
