High street sales 'pick up in February'

High street sales rebounded this month after a dismal January.

A survey by the CBI found that 46% of shopkeepers enjoyed better sales this February than last while 23% said business was lower. The year-on-year balance of plus 23% was better than the minus 8% reported last month.

Andy Clarke, chief operating officer of Asda, said: "The road to recovery through 2010 is likely to be fragile."
