Johnson Matthey hit by car sales slip

The slump in the car industry is continuing to take its toll on platinum firm Johnson Matthey, which today reported a 21% decline in first-quarter profit.

The world's leading supplier of catalytic converters said that sales of autocatalysts in April and May were down more than 30% on the same period last year, and warned it does not expect the picture to brighten in the second quarter.
