Lamprell wins wind energy contract for lift boat

11 April 2012

Oil services firm Lamprell grabbed another slice of the lucre available from the growing wind energy industry today, winning a $129 million (£86.8 million) contract to make a wind turbine lift boat.

The firm is bidding for $1 billion-worth of contracts in the offshore wind market.

Chief executive Nigel McCue said: "This win reaffirms our belief that we are well positioned to be leaders in the provision of lift boats."

Lift boats are the trucks of the sea: they chug out to offshore sites and are fitted with cranes that build and embed wind turbines or other equipment into the ocean bed.
