Majestic offer of next-day delivery brings Christmas cheer to wine lovers

Wine lovers got an early Christmas present today as Majestic Wine announced the arrival of a next-day delivery service.

Under the new system, which will be fully rolled out by Wednesday, customers can receive any of its 1250 wines within 24 hours of ordering or on a day of their choosing. There will be no six-bottle minimum rule for online orders.

A chunk of deliveries will be handled through a warehouse rather than stores, freeing up staff, Majestic said.

Retail chief John Colley added the service was a “big step” in Majestic’s three-year transformation plan and will support crucial festive trading.

Majestic, which bought wine-buying crowdfunding platform Naked Wines in April 2015, issued a profit warning last month, but said it is on track to hit £500 million sales by 2019.
