May Gurney targets capital for a recycling revolution

11 April 2012

The recycling revolution is coming to a London borough near you soon.

Council services contractor May Gurney says its MaGos privatised bin clearance business is proving the future for household waste.

MaGos — May Gurney Optimal Solutions — is using demographic software to increase the efficiency of its state-of-the-art dustcarts.

The process, which is already in full swing in Somerset will, for example, ensure that there are the optimum number of dustcarts to deal with wine bottle recycling in the smarter parts of Bath.

May Gurney chief executive Philip Fellowes-Prynne said: "We are delivering a recycling revolution."

He says several London boroughs, including Barnet, Ealing and others, will benefit from MaGos in the future.

May Gurney's underlying, pre-tax profits rose 13% to £10 million in the six months to the end of September.

Revenues in the period increased marginally at £239 million.

The interim dividend is up at 1.8p.
