Keeping entertained while travelling to your holiday destination

6 September 2012

Bags are packed, passports, tickets and money are safely stored in your hand luggage, and it’s time to head off on your hols. But wait – have you got something to keep you entertained while you’re travelling? If not, read on.

Cheap holidays abroad are great, but travelling to your destination is never the most enjoyable part of the trip – particularly if you have a long drive or train journey to get to the airport.  Here are some ideas on things that are easy to pack and will keep you occupied as you make your trip. Whether Rhodes holidays are your idea of heaven, with a jam-packed programme of sight seeing to keep you occupied, or you’d rather laze away the days on a sun-kissed beach, we’ll ensure you get there – sanity intact!

Puzzle books (like Prize Puzzles, for example) are an ideal option as they’re lightweight enough to fit in your handbag and will keep you entertained for hours – especially if you’re a fan of Killer Sudoku and cryptic crosswords. You’ll find a whole range in any good newsagents – especially at the airport. Stock up on a few before you board your train or plane and you’ll be there before you know it.

Another great way to pass the time is with your Kindle or other e-reader. Kindles are great for cheap holidays in the sun because they’re compact, lightweight and easy to read – even in bright sunlight. Plus, you’ll be able to stock up on a whole list of new books without taking up valuable space in your luggage. Before you head off on your travels, log into the Kindle store and check out the latest bestseller section. There’s no need for serious heavy reading when you’re on a plane, so you’ve got free license to download the cheesiest title that takes your fancy!

If you’re not a great reader, why not invest in a mini DVD player? These handy little gadgets are perfect if you’re on a long flight with a budget airline that doesn’t offer any entertainment. Tunisia holidays, for example, will be preceded by a three hour flight – quite a long time to be sat on a plane without anything to keep you occupied. If you have a movie to watch, you’ll easily while away most of the flight time. And if you time it properly, you’ll get to the end credits just as the plane starts to descend into glorious sunshine.

So, now you have something extra to add to your revised holiday checklist – passport, tickets, wallet, and something to keep me occupied. Happy holidays!
