Premier Foods on target after 7% sales jump

Premier Foods, Britain's biggest food manufacturer with brands such as Hovis and Mr Kipling, today said it was on course to meet profit expectations for the year after a 7% leap in first-half sales.

The firm, which slashed its dividend and restructured its finances in March as it struggled with the soaring cost of ingredients and the impact of the credit crunch, said first-half profits were in line with the £120 million made a year earlier.

Chief executive Robert Schofield said: "Premier Foods has made good progress despite the difficult economic and trading environment."
