Chrysalis Records, the independent music label reborn earlier this year through its sale by giants Warner Brothers, has hired John Dyer, part of the team at Domino Records who signed Arctic Monkeys, to be its managing director.

Chrysalis, whose roster includes The Specials, Sinead O’Connor and the Fun Lovin’ Criminals, was bought from Warner earlier this year in a deal led by industry veterans Jeremy Lascelles and Robin Millar which saw its founder Chris Wright return to the company as non-executive chairman.

At Chrysalis, Dyer will work to market such classic tracks as Ghost Town and Nothing Compares To U, but will also look to discover new talent.

Explaining his love of the indy world, Dyer said: “I like gnarly and interesting stuff, not just big and shiny. Domino was fantastic but I’d done what I set out to do there.

"Now, there’s a lot we can do at Chrysalis, developing an alternative way to market and look after artists. I think I can do some work there which can actually help strengthen the whole sector.”
