Robert Wiseman flags milk rise as it ups rate to farmers

11 April 2012

The sharp end of the supermarket price war was highlighted by dairy group Robert Wiseman today.

It is upping the price it pays farmers by 1.85p a litre from Saturday and said, while first-half profits should be up to expectations, the second half will depend on whether it can pass that hike onto its customers. These include the Co-op and Tesco.

Wiseman said it was vital that its customers helped it out with the price rise to farmers, which "was critical for sustaining supplies".

Since August Wiseman has been supplying all the Co-op's milk, which is the largest single gain in milk volumes it has ever produced. The shares slipped 4p to 304p.
