The Mayor of London on Thurday hailed the capital’s creative and technology industries as “the envy of the world”.

Sadiq Khan was commenting as Framestore, the award-winning British special effects firm, began relocating staff from Soho to a substantially larger headquarters at 28 Chancery Lane, near Holborn station.

He said Framestore’s move shows “its commitment to London”, and added it “will help ensure we remain at the forefront of cutting-edge innovation”.

The new building is 100,000 square feet and will be home to 1100 staff.

Framestore, founded in 1986, has just won a Bafta for Blade Runner 2049 and is nominated for two Oscars at Sunday’s ceremony.

Chief executive Sir William Sargent said: “Holborn has a real buzz to it and is fast-emerging as the creative heart of the city. We really feel it’s the right place for us to continue our journey.”

He added: “Our move is a major opportunity for our business, our people and our clients. It’s an exciting new chapter in our story here in the UK.”
