Vidal Sassoon on Monday outlined plans to keep London at the centre of its hairdressing empire, investing in a new training academy in Victoria.

The company, founded by the late Vidal Sassoon whose “wash and wear” cuts revolutionised hair care in the 1960s, has just signed a deal to open a new 26,393 square feet site at 58 Buckingham Gate.

Advised by property agent Tuckerman, it will open in June and replace three existing smaller locations in the capital.

It will have the capacity to teach 122 students per week, with pupils from a host of countries including England, Japan, Italy, Spain and Dubai.

Vidal Sassoon said London has always been a “fashion capital” and that the firm’s affinity here stretches back to its original Bond Street salon which opened in 1954.

UK general manager Leona Curran told the Standard: “London retains its position as a melting pot of fashion innovation with its cool young designers and vibrant street style. It’s therefore a natural choice for Sassoon as the leader in global hair education to continue its relationship with the city to attract hair professionals from all over the world.”
