Square peg: a computer-generated image of the proposed development

With reference to your article about the new road layout put forward as part of the proposed Paddington Cube development [July 28], the well-worn Mandy Rice-Davies phrase “they would say that, wouldn’t they?” comes straight to mind.

Personally, I would rather listen to the concerns put forward by Imperial College Healthcare chief executive Dr Tracey Batten and London Ambulance Service chief executive Garrett Emmerson about the dangers that will be encountered by ambulances ferrying patients to St Mary’s Hospital A&E department, than the “independent studies” put forward by the Cube’s developers.

They no doubt do not live anywhere near the site of the Cube, and should they be involved in an accident or fall dangerously ill will probably be ferried straight to Harley Street or Devonshire Place for private treatment, a long way from the dangerous road they want to impose on Paddington and its residents.
