Paperback: Tuesday’s Gone by Nicci French (Penguin, £7.99)

Tuesday's Gone by Nicci French. Books 07/02
7 February 2013

There’s a dead guy. He’s been dead for a while. There’s a strange noise in the house. It’s the flies buzzing around the dead guy. He’s rotting. Badly. But there’s an iced bun in his hand. Someone wants to feed him. Presumably the disturbed woman who lives in the house. But did she murder him — or is she just watching over his body? Nicci French gives you overlapping mysteries, and you’re gripped from the start. Various people set out to solve the mystery of the dead guy. There’s Frieda, the therapist with what seems like a guilt complex, about some unfinished business she might have with a killer. But she’s winningly brilliant. Then there’s Karlsson, the cop with family problems. He’s great, too. Subtle, powerful, compelling.
