Catherine Tate will be heading back to the London stage in April as the host of this year’s Olivier Awards.

The award-winning actress and writer will present the awards ceremony, recognising excellence in theatre, on April 9 at the Royal Albert Hall.

Tate is well-known for her small screen work on The Catherine Tate Show and Doctor Who, but has starred in several theatre productions herself.

She played the Beatrice to David Tennant’s Benedict in a 2011 West End production of Much Ado About Nothing, and in 2015 appeared in Assassins at the Menier Chocolate Factory and The Vote at Donmar Warehouse.

She said: “I’m delighted to be hosting this year’s Olivier Awards. Theatre has always been a big love of mine both as a performer and as an audience member. For me it’s the shared experience that can’t be beaten.”

The nominations for this year’s awards will be announced on March 6.
