Cultural Capital episode 26: watch our weekly show on the best of London’s arts and culture

With Amy Winehouse at the Design Museum, House of Gucci and Life of Pi in the West End, we’ve got London covered

Welcome to the new edition of Cultural Capital. As the whole of the arts tries exhaustingly to cram a year’s worth of activity into the last couple of months of 2021, we’re here to pick out the best of it for you.

This week we’re paying homage to a London icon. There’s been a lot written about how tragic was the life and death of Amy Winehouse, and quite rightly. What perhaps there hasn’t been enough of is joy taken in her talent, vivacity and musical legacy. The Design Museum, working with the Winehouse family, is hoping to change that with its new exhibition, Amy: Beyond the Stage. We headed down there earlier this week to take a look.

And we’re going backstage at the new stage production of Yann Martel’s Booker Prize-winning novel Life of Pi, which, after its triumphant premiere in 2019 at the Sheffield Crucible, has finally reached the West End. We talk to the puppeteers behind its incredible menagerie of animals.

We’re heading to the Dickens Museum for a frankly quite creepy Thing of the Week and I’ll be reviewing the campest film you’ll see this Christmas, House of Gucci.
