A collection of more than 400 photographs by Hollywood actor Dennis Hopper capturing American culture in the Sixties is this week to go on show in London for the first time.

Subjects of the images, being shown at the Royal Academy, include Hell’s Angels, Martin Luther King, Hopper’s fellow actors Jane Fonda and Paul Newman, director Roger Vadim and artists Andy Warhol and David Hockney.

Easy Rider star Hopper took the pictures between 1961 and 1967 after he was encouraged by James Dean.

Curator Petra Giloy-Hirtz said: “He was a chronicler of his times.”
