Rare artwork from the Walt Disney archives, including his first character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and an early Mickey Mouse is to go on display in London this weekend.

The exhibition in Westfield Stratford coincides with the launch of a video game giving Oswald his most prominent role in decades.

Disney, who died aged 65 in 1966, created the rabbit in 1927 and he appeared in a string of films. But Disney lost the rights and the studios only bought it back six years ago. Oswald is now appearing with Mickey Mouse in Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.

Warren Spector, the game’s creative director, said of Oswald: “Bringing him back as a heroic partner for Mickey Mouse is the perfect way to reawaken a character lost for over 80 years.”

The exhibition at The Getty Images Gallery runs from tomorrow until Sunday.
