The Zoological Society London's Animal Photography Prize has returned for it's second year. This year's winning images, chosen from thousands of entries, include an imposing yet serene portrait, rendered in black and white, of a turtle underwater and a panda nonchalantly chewing bamboo shoots.

The winners, announced today, were chosen by a panel of judges including TV presenter Kate Humble and environmentalist David Bellamy.

The overall winner of the adult category was Bence Mate, whose close-up portrait of an ant carrying a pink leaf demonstrates the insect's immense strength, and Connie Beith who won the junior category with a glowing underwater shot of a jellyfish.

There were six categories in total, including Last Chance to See? for photos of endangered species, Deep and Meaningful, for underwater snaps and a special category for pictures captured on smartphones or video stills, entitled Catch me if you Can.

Entry to the outdoor exhibition is included in the ticket price for the zoo.
