Breezy romantic comedy seems to be something Cameron Diaz does well - and she returns to the winning formula in her latest film, The Sweetest Thing.
The 29-year-old actress will be hoping to erase memories of her last film, Vanilla Sky, in which she played a suicidal stalker opposite Tom Cruise. The film was not received kindly by the critics.
In her new movie Diaz plays Christina Walters, who finally meets her perfect match after years of avoiding meaningful relationships with men. When he disappears, she and her best friend set out to find him.
In true Hollywood style, it doesn't take a genius to work out that the search leads to a revelation: love is, indeed, the sweetest thing.
The film also stars Selma Blair, recently seen in Todd Solondz's provocative Storytelling.
Thomas Jane, whose last film was the Stephen King adaptation Dreamcatcher, plays Diaz's "perfect match" and the object of her desire. It gives Diaz ample opportunity to do what she does best - the blonde beauty in the comic set-piece.
And it will put further distance between her and that scene: the hair-gel gag in There's Something About Mary, which has passed into cinematic lore and which she will probably never be allowed to forget.
Diaz's penchant for quirky comedy might be a spin-off from her real-life relationship with actor Jared Leto.
In a recent interview, Leto shared his unorthodox view that he would happily give up his creature comforts if he could find a suitable cave for the couple to live in.
He added: "I would prefer living in a cave, with a door. Maybe a giant hobbit cave, with furry rugs. Something really cosy, with a fireplace - something you could stay in for six to 15 months at a time."
