Fast and Furious 5 defies logic

10 April 2012

This palpable nonsense, which has a plot that defies all but Hollywood's logic, is so smartly produced and directed that even its inordinate length doesn't matter all that much.

You just go along with it.

Shot mostly in Rio and adorned with genuinely spectacular action sequences that outdo most Bond films, Justin Lin's film has a now double-chinned but still charismatic Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster assembling an elite team to orchestrate one last heist worth $100 million.

Federal agent Dwayne Johnson and arch-crook Joaquim de Almeida, whose money it is, stand in their way. No prizes for guessing who wins out in the end.
