Hollywood star dies at 87

Red Buttons, the stage comedian who was an early star of US television and went on to win an Oscar, has died at the age of 87.

Buttons started on the comedy circuit in the Thirties and after serving in the Second World War starred in films such as The Longest Day.

He won the 1957 best supporting actor Oscar for his role in Sayonara and in later years appeared on TV as ER's Mr Rubadoux.
