Jen Graduates to new film role

10 April 2012

Jennifer Aniston is set to star opposite Kevin Costner in a new film based on The Graduate.

Costner is in talks to play a male version of the Mrs Robinson character, an older man who seduces Aniston.

In the Hollywood comedy, Aniston discovers that the classic 60s movie starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft was based on her family and that her grandmother - played by Shirley MacLaine - was the inspiration for the man-eating Mrs Robinson.

She returns to the family home to find out the truth and ends up falling for Costner's middle-aged character in a gender reversal of the original.

The as-yet-untitled film will be produced by George Clooney.

In other announcements at the Cannes Film Festival, Marlon Brando is set to play himself in the movie Brando on Brando, about a young Tunisian boy who idolises the Hollywood star and comes to America in a bid to meet his hero.

British director Mike Figgis is to make a film version of the Jennifer Belle novel Going Down, about a drama student who turns to prostitution to pay her way through college. American actress Julia Stiles is in talks to take the starring role.

And a forthcoming UK/Irish film, Tokushika, is the "samurai-inspired" story of an IRA hitman who finds himself out of work. The film-makers say it will "combine comedy with a study of the random nature of terrorist violence".
