Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters - film review

In this 3D sequel, Percy and friends are on a quest for the Golden Fleece of legend, and must battle through hell, high water and ropy digital effects to get it

Percy Jackson’s first screen adventure was steered by one-time Harry Potter director Chris Columbus, as if the boy wizard’s shadow didn’t loom large enough over this tween-targeted fantasy franchise. The splendidly named Thor Freudenthal has taken over for this 3D sequel, and it’s a moderate improvement — scrappy and kind-hearted, with odd flashes of high camp — even if its universe of patchworked Greek mythological elements still makes little sense. This time, Percy (the increasingly appealing Logan Lerman) and friends are on a quest for the Golden Fleece of legend, and must battle through hell, high water and ropy digital effects to get it.
