Push comes to shove

Man Push Cart: motion picture
10 April 2012

If you're haunted by neo-realist classics such as The Bicycle Thief, check out Man Push Cart, a low-budget offering, shot in black and white, that creates the same kind of hard-edged magic. A handsome ex-rock star from Pakistan pushes a doughnut cart around Manhattan; by the end, we understand why.

One or two flimsy scenes notwithstanding, this is one of those tiny films (in English and Urdu) that makes the world seem huge.
