Saturday Night Fever comes alive

An interactive take on the 70s movie classic comes to the Old Vic Tunnels

Interactive cinema is coming to London and it’s disco-shaped. For ten days in July, the Old Vic Tunnels beneath Waterloo Station will pay homage to 1977 movie classic, Saturday Night Fever.

The unique subterranean space, which hosts regular installations, performances and exclusive screenings, will be transformed into the 70s Brooklyn streetscape made famous by the blockbuster and will house a late-night discothèque to boot.

Who needs 3D; live music and disco dancers will bring to life a screening of the film, supplemented by authentic New York food and drink. Visit the pizza joint, roast some marshmallows over a trashcan or stock up on some treats in the candy store.

Get immersed even further into the themed evening by browsing the vintage boutique for fancy dress, before hitting the strip club for a few strong drinks.

The maze of forgotten railway vaults is sure to provide a unique and gritty backdrop to this somewhat unorthodox cinematic experience.

On Friday and Saturday nights, wannabe Tony Maneros and Stephanie Manganos, the protagonists of the film played by John Travolta and Karen Lynn Gorney, can cut some shapes until the early hours at the ‘2001 Odyssey Disco’.

The Old Vic Tunnels, Station Approach Road , London, SE1 8SW. Tickets range from £25-40 depending on seat location and if you want to include the after-party on weekends. After-party ticket without film is £15. Over 18s only. Visit oldvictunnels.com.
