Super news: The new series will feature characters like the Flash, Batman and Wonder Woman

The DC universe is about to get bigger than ever before, with a new series of podcasts coming soon to Spotify.

The streaming service is teaming up Warner Bros. and DC to record shows featuring some of cinema's most popular superheroes and supervillains.

The likes of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn and The Joker will be at the heart of the stories, which promise to be both dramatic and comedic. Rather than rehash old comics or films, those behind the launch say the podcasts will offer fans "original, scripted, narrative shows that will live exclusively on the platform."

Shows will be available for free, with more original crossovers planned in the future. It's the first project to include the entirety of the DC Universe, and should come as a positive news for fans who have seen the release of movies like Wonder Woman 1984 pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Dawn Ostroff, Chief Content and Advertising Business Officer at Spotify, said: “As we continue to see explosive growth in podcasting around the world, we are thrilled to partner with Warner Bros. to build this slate of programming drawn from the worlds of DC and WB.”

He added: “We could not be more excited to be working with Robert, Peter and the entire Warner Bros. and DC teams to deliver new exclusive stories to the more than 286 million Spotify users.”

Executives Peter Girardi and Robert Steele, who will head up the partnership for Warner Bros, also said: ‘’Warner Bros. has been synonymous with compelling and unforgettable storytelling for nearly a century, and we’re continuing to expand that legacy across all types of media platforms for our fans.
