PlayStation has given us an extremely detailed look at The Last of Us Part II in its latest State of Play.

Director of Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, walked us through a brand new sequence of gameplay, showing Ellie navigating the shattered streets of Seattle.

These eight minutes of glorious, uninterrupted gameplay show off stealth, swimming, crafting and Sony's oft-forgotten handheld console, the PS Vita, alive and well in the apocalypse.

You can watch the whole State of Play video below. As you might expect from playing the first version, The Last of Us Part II looks incredibly grim and brutal.

The gameplay beings with Ellie in the city, navigating a pool of water as she's being tracked down by the Washington Liberation Front.

Eventually, Ellie starts getting stabby with some of their members, kicking off some more violence.

After dealing with the PS Vita-playing WLF member, Ellie heads on and created a suppressor for her pistol out of a bottle of water, as if the game needed more comparisons to The Walking Dead.

For some hideous and unknown reason, Ellie goes on to burn a poor, defenceless (but definitely hungry) dog to death, which is something we're not looking forward to having to do when the game is out.

Of course, the sequence ends on a cliff hanger as Ellie finds who she was looking for. We'll have to wait for the full game to release on June 19 to see what happens.

Just like before, the story will span multiple seasons and climates as you travel to new locations around America.

Also shown off in the video, we've seen how travelling around the world has changed significantly from the first game.

It appears that you'll be navigating a lot of the world on horseback, if this translates to a larger world map, however, remains to be seen.

The environment is also much more open in this game as opposed to the first, which while vast, was linear. Each of these locations has huge areas to explore, which can lead to nifty side narratives (probably sub-quests) and hidden areas.

To top it all off, the combat looks spectacular. People who played the first Last of Us game will no doubt remember how fun and brutal the melee fighting was and this sequel looks to expand and improve on that cinematic and lethal combat in every way.

We can't wait to see if The Last of Us Part II will live up to this monumental hype, especially considering how impressive the first game was.

The Last of Us Part II will release as a PS4 exclusive on June 19
