Persona 4 Golden was released on Steam over the weekend and it has reportedly already smashed records on the gaming platform.

According to a user post on Resetera, the hit game has become the most concurrently played JRPG on Steam – excluding MMOs (massively multiplayer online games) – in the platform's history.

Final Fantasy XV previously held this record of having the most players at one time, with the highest number being 29,279 according to Steam Charts.

Persona 4 Golden reportedly had 29,984 concurrent players in its first day of being available on Steam.

The post reads: "After being available to purchase for about a day, Persona 4 Golden has taken the throne from Final Fantasy XV on Steam".

“There’s no way this game hasn’t been a huge success for Atlus and SEGA,” the post continues. “Really curious to see if it goes much higher, but even if it doesn’t, this is a very cool record to be set.”

This could hopefully be the beginning for more Persona games, which previously had been exclusive to PlayStation consoles, coming to PC at long last.

It appears that Atlus, the developers behind the Persona series, has recently come around to the idea of releasing its games to a broader audience, with the release of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers on Nintendo Switch and Catherine Classic on Steam and Full Body Switch.

If the current Steam reviews for Persona 4 are anything to go by, there's a clear market for Persona games coming to other consoles and it could further see Persona 5: Royal coming to PC eventually.

Persona 4, and the updated 2012 version on the PS Vita Persona 4 Golden has been featured on our lists of the best PlayStation games of all time as well as being one of the best games to play during the lockdown.

In our opinion, it is better in nearly every single way to Persona 5. The characters and story are especially leaps and bounds ahead of the P5 cast and if you missed Persona 4 on the Vita, now is the absolute best time to check it out.
