Popular children's game Robox has been the target of a hacking attack.

A hacker reportedly 'bribed an employee' for access to the back-end of the game in an effort to gain access to hundreds of millions of users' personal details.

Vice reported that the hacker was able to see people's emails, remove two-factor authentication from accounts and even change passwords

Speaking anonymously to the publication, the hacker shared screenshots of the information they gained access to, while also bragging about selling items.

A spokesperson from Roblox told the Standard: “We immediately took action to address the issue and individually notified the very small amount of customers who were impacted,"

They continued, 'We’ve also reported the actions of this individual to HackerOne for investigation as an additional measure".

Roblox is a free-to-play game tailored towards kids, that lets you play, create and be anything you can imagine.

It's similar to Mojang's popular game Minecraft in that players have the freedom to create whatever they imagine, from creating minigames to obstacle courses and so on.

Supposedly, the hacker was able to deceive a Roblox worker under the guise of helping find a bug in the system, all to 'prove a point'. As evidence, they provided images to Vice showing the data they had access to.

While the incident didn't do too much damage, there are some real concerns here since so many children play the game. Roblox has over 115 million monthly active users, many of them aged between nine and 18.

Kids can chat in the game, which is moderated using AI to automatically filter out bad words and abuse, as well as by human moderators.

To date, there are over 15 million user-generated games on Roblox, with over 11 million titles released last year alone.

All of these games on Roblox have been produced by users, making everything on their platform user-generated content.
