An Evening Standard photographer features in a new book about people who “keep London running”.

Jeremy Selwyn, below, who has worked for the paper since 1987 and whose award-winning pictures include one of the Grenfell Tower fire, appears with 23 other Londoners — representing each hour of the day — in London Lives.

Other subjects include Karl Standley, Head Groundsman at Wembley, and Jane Anderson, the Costume Supervisor at Madame Tussauds. Each of the 24 has their work and life explored in a profile, and there is a foreword by BBC presenter Andrew Marr. The book was created by Channel 4 documentary-maker Danny Rosenbaum and photographer Rupert Vandervell, both life-long Londoners.

Mr Vandervell said: “We wanted to show that in every hour there is a person and place that plays an important role in making London the vibrant and diverse city that it is.

“As well as featuring people who have stand-out roles, such as David Ison, the Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, we wanted to focus on those who work behind the scenes but are no less important.”

Marr said the book “seems to me to get nearer to the truth about why contemporary London is such an enjoyable city for so many of us — not everyone — to live in”.
