Rare candid photos of Marilyn Monroe feature in new exhibition at Galerie Prints

1/6

A series of “candid” photographs of Marilyn Monroe are on show in a new exhibition.

They were taken by US photographer Ed Feingersh, who spent a week with the star in March 1955.

Shot without a flash using only natural light, they show the actress on the New York subway and at a dress fitting.

The black and white images on display, many of which have never been printed or exhibited before, have been produced as silver gelatin darkroom prints.

Feingersh, who is best-known for his Monroe works, captured the photos during an assignment for Red Book magazine — having been recommended for the job by Monroe herself.

The photographic negatives from this period were recovered from a warehouse several decades after the Brooklyn-born photographer passed away in 1961.

The shots on display are available to purchase, with prices starting from £300.

A Week with Marilyn is at Galerie Prints in Wimbledon until March 30.
