A brand new festival comes to east London this weekend, with Citadel taking over Victoria Park for a weekend of music – and a remarkable amount more.

Here’s our guide to what’s on and how to make the most of your festival, plus info on remaining tickets.

The essentials

The festival takes place on Sunday (July 19) at Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets. Gates will open at midday, with a curfew in place from 10.30pm.

There is no parking so public transport is your best option for getting there. The nearest Tube station is Mile End on the District and Circle lines, while the nearest Overground station is Cambridge Heath. By bus, the number 8, 309, 339, 388, D3, D6 and S2 buses all run nearby to Victoria Park.

Need a ticket?

There are still tickets available. Be sure to avoid unauthorised ticket merchants, and go the any one of the licensed sites: Ticketmaster, Ticketweb, See Tickets, Songkick, Gigantic, AXS, Eventim, Ticket Arena, Stargreen, YPlan, Festicket (Accommodation Packages) or Ents24.

Tickets are also needed if you want to attend one of the Sunday Feasts (more info on that below).

The music

Citadel may be in its infancy as a music festival, but it certainly doesn’t lack much clout when it comes to headliners – Bombay Bicycle Club and Ben Howard are the two acts leading the bill.

The rest of the line-up is strong, too, with Kurt Vile and the Violators, Anna Calvi, Leon Bridges, Neneh Cherry and Nick Mulvey among the highlights.

The food and drink

Richard Turner, known for his work with Hawksmoor, Pitt Cue Co and Meatopia, is behind the festival’s “Sunday Feasts”. There will be two sittings on the day, with a three-course menu on offer.

In addition to that, there will be no fewer than 31 London foodie favourites, including Bleecker Street Burger and Le Bun, dotted around the site. So whether you’re into burgers and burritos, or pancakes and pizzas, it seems as if you’re pretty much covered.

And there’s more

Aside from the music and the food, there is a considerable amount more to keep you entertained. There is a sports day, where you can take part in a volleyball championship or relax with some croquet.

Sunday Papers Live also makes an appearance, with an impressive range of guest speakers – including London mayoral hopeful Tessa Jowell and poet Dizraeli – while elsewhere there are comedy tents, a roller disco, wellbeing sessions and family-friendly events.
