Ed Sheeran has won the top prize at the BMI London Awards 2017.

The musician claimed the prize for ‘Song Of The Year’ for Love Yourself, the number one single he wrote for Justin Bieber.

Sheeran was awarded the prize at Monday night’s ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel, which celebrated the songwriters, musicians and publishers behind the most-performed tracks of 2016.

The singer-songwriter also won the same award last year for his track Thinking Out Loud.

Elsewhere, it was an emotional night for Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay, who received the BMI President’s Award after performing acoustic renditions of Love Foolosophy and Space Cowboy.

While receiving the prize, the musician paid tribute to late Jamiroquai member Toby Smith, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 46.

Guests at the event included the likes of Foals, Naughty Boy and Bipolar Sunshine, who were all honoured at the ceremony.

The BMI Awards have been running in the US since 1952, and recognise the most performed and widely-circulated tracks of the year. The first BMI London Awards took place in 2007.
