Critically-acclaimed acts including Everything, Everything and Ed Harcourt have signed up to play a fund-raising gig to help under-threat music venues.
The Fightback fundraiser at the Roundhouse in Camden was only launched two weeks ago and half the ticket allocation sold out before any of the acts were announced.
The Music Venue Trust (MVT) charity has also signed up bands including Public Service Broadcasting, The Spitfires and The Carnabys for the concert on Tuesday October 18.
MVT’s Mark Davyd said: “We’ve been stunned by the reaction from artists and public alike; not only in offers to play but in the incredible uptake on tickets. More than half of available tickets have already been sold, and this line up means that some of the early supporters of the event have probably got the bargain of the year.”
All the proceeds from the gig will go to support the charity’s emergency response work which helps pay for costly legal advice for venues facing planning, development, noise and licensing issues. Around a third of the capital’s music venues have closed in the last 10 years with rising rents and an increase in complaints from nearby new developments among the issues facing owners and operators.

Mayor Sadiq Khan has pledged to help surviving venues by introducing the Agent of Change principle into the next London Plan, which governs the city’s development, which would mean developers had to deal with noise complaints if they built near existing venues.
