PVRIS - All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell review

Don't be fooled by the silly name there's plenty to like about this pop-tinged rock album
Rick Pearson25 August 2017

A self-important album title and a silly band name (it’s pronounced “Paris”) are usually portents of a painful listening experience. Not so with PVRIS’s second record.

Touring with Muse seems to have rubbed off on this Massachusetts trio, whose tracks now contain a similar amount of overdriven guitars and arena-sized ambition.

Theirs is a polished and precise sound, although there’s a rockier edge to What’s Wrong and No Mercy, where bludgeoning beats and Lynn “Gunn” Gunnulfsen’s leather-lunged vocals combine to thrilling effect.

Overall, it’s a little too commercial to appeal to the heavy-rockin’ hardcore. But those who like their pop with a bit more bite will find PVRIS a thrilling place to visit.
