New music venue The Camden Assembly will launch on Chalk Farm Road next month, pulling together a lineup of emerging music talent and a kitchen run by Lucky Chip.

The venue — which will have a capacity of 400 — replaces the iconic Barfly and is the latest launch from The Columbo Group, which is behind Camden’s recently re-launched Jazz Café nearby as well as this summer’s Sunfall festival and clubs XOYO in Shoreditch, The Nest in Dalston and Phonox in Brixton.

The group also runs The Blue’s Kitchen group of restaurants — including a site in Camden — and The Old Queen’s Head pub in Islington, where Lucky Chip already have a residency.

The Camden Assembly will host weekend club nights, Monday student nights and a Tuesday pub quiz, and will boast a top of the range D&B sound system.

The diverse range of performances set for the opening weeks includes include rising-star grime artist AJ Tracey, soul singer Andrew Ashong and DJs The 2 Bears, plus an intimate live show from some secret guests.

Andy Peyton, the new venue’s head of music said: “We want this venue not to be a monument to the glory days of indie, or the glory days of Camden, or the glory days of The Barfly. Instead we hope it will be a forward-thinking reflection of the eclectic tastes young people have today, something Camden and London can be proud of.”

Its opening comes at a time when there is a lot of activity and change in Camden, including the launch of a new seven-days-a-week street food market from Kerb.
